Neil Patrick Harris, Gay Man of the Decade @actuallynph

AfterElton.com has named Neil Patrick Harris its Gay Man of the Decade, and Jimmy Kimmel had him on his show, in part to celebrate the honor.

Harris ran down the list of other potential winners, including Adam Lambert (“Didn’t we just meet him, like, eight months ago?” Kimmel asked), Ian McKellen (“Well-deserving,” Harris added) and Torchwood’s John Barrowman, whom Harris says he beat by just 20 points.

I (Bob) personally loved this comment that was left by Abby in Texas:

Yes, other gay men have done more behind the scenes. However, NPH is someone who is in the public eye, who is charming to even the most conservative fundamentalists that middle america has to offer. Its hard to believe gays are evil when you are exposed to such delightful 'normal' people such as NPH or Ellen. Straight middle america only used to see gay men and women as the butt of jokes, and any news story about gays used the obligatory pride-parade freak show footage. I love to get drunk and wear glitter as much as the next gal... but I do not want my community represented by the most outlandish displays of queer-foolery. He has advanced the public image of the gay and lesbian community more than any behind the scenes policy making could. When was the last time an openly gay man was a cult hero for teenage boys? His role in the Harold and Kumar movies made him a demi god to a demographic that is notoriously homophobic, and made it 'ok' for them to have gay friends. Cheers to that.

Bravo!
