David Archuleta will be the final guest of 2010!

We are so excited to announce that our final guest of 2010 will be singer David Archuleta! For those new to The Baub Show, the show streams live at www.thebaubshow.com where you can find a live chatroom, audio player and a phone number to call in and say hi. Once the show is over, you will be able to find it in the archives section as well as a download on iTunes as a podcast.

Due to an anticipated high volume of callers and and listeners, we'd love to take some of your questions in advance. On This Week's Menu: Chris Kirkpatrick from NSYNC and Nigels 11

February 22, 2010- Chris Kirkpatrick is credited as the one who put together and started *NSYNC, whose albums*NSYNC and No Strings Attached each sold over 10 million copies earning them the prestigious RIAA Diamond Award for both albums. He along with his four other band members achieved a music industry coup by selling over 56 million records and still hold the records for most records sold in a single day and first week. No Strings Attached sold a staggering 1.1 million albums on the first day of its release and went on to sell a 2.4 million in that first week. Chris has appeared on countless TV shows, magazine covers and won numerous music awards and performed the Super Bowl Halftime Show.

Since *NSYNC went on hiatus, Chris has gone on to pursue a solo career. Nigels11 is releasing it first full CD and has performed live shows much to the delight of his fans. Additionally, since 2002, Chris has also lent his acting and vocal skills to the Nickelodeon cartoon, The Fairly Odd Parents, as the teeth-loving pop star, Chip Skylark.

Perhaps Chris’s proudest achievement has little to do with music and everything to do with sharing his good fortune with those infinitely less fortune than he. The Chris Kirkpatrick Foundation was established with that very thought in mind. Through his foundation Chris continues the work he began with *NSYNC’s Challenge For The Children Foundation raising over 5 million dollars for children’s charities. CKF has been able to reach out to disadvantaged children and offer them help and hope. The work of the foundation allows him to share his successes and dreams with young people while making a contribution to change lives one dream at a time.

Luckily for them, Chris Kirkpatrick is just getting started.

On Wednesday, Jan 20 song-writer/musician Big Kenny left for Haiti to join the search for his missing friend and the CEO of SunEPI , Walt Ratterman. Walt was promoting renewable energy projects in rural parts of Haiti and went missing after the January 12th earthquake. Big Kenny arrived in the Dominican Republic along with a crew of 10 doctors and a rescue team. They crossed the border into Haiti and dispersed amongst the Port-au-Prince area providing aid and medical assistance along the way. Walt's remains have since been found and Big Kenny has vowed to keep his spirit alive by continue providing service in Haiti.

Magnificent Obsession

GODSPEED, MISTER GOOD DEEDS

An accident leads to death. The death leads to another accident. And the second accident leads to…

This is the chain reaction that starts off Douglas Sirk’s “Magnificent Obsession.” Rock Hudson plays Bob Merrick, a thrill-seeking bachelor, who, at a need for speed, crashes his boat on a lake. He survives but his rescuing inadvertently claims another life – the well-loved Doctor Philips. The community is heartbroken and grudgingly despises the hedonistic Merrick, who’s no trade-off for the philanthropic doc.

Out of guilt, Merrick reaches out to Helen Philips (Jane Wyman), the doctor’s widow. He offers her money but she refuses. But he’s persistent; he’s gung-ho to be a better person and do good deeds. This I’d-like-to-help-you / get-away-from-me tug-of-war inevitably leads to another accident. This time, it is at Helen’s expense. And waiting in the wings, Bob Merrick is still the eager helper … and perhaps still the magnet for bad luck.

“Magnificent Obsession” deeply intrigued me at first; I even became engaged at its philosophical direction. Its sequence of events resonated like an episode of “Lost” and had me asking questions. What if there is a higher power at play? What if Merrick is prone to cause accident even if he wants to do good deeds? The first hour had a metaphysical undertone, touching upon themes of redemption and second chances.

But alas, the plot develops a bit contrived. Those who find the premise unlikely will laugh at the later developments. The film also suffers a common pitfall for romantic films: the split-em-apart contrivance. Oh why, why, why! The second half had me shaking my head and questioning the story’s logic instead of its deeper meanings. The perspective on the title itself is even misleading. The “obsession” to me seems more over a woman rather than the act of good doing.

The movie disappoints but my thumb quivers to point slightly upwards. This is my first Douglas Sirk film. I can’t pinpoint it but Sirk creates an aura of something soft and delicate. And yet, you can’t really call this film timid. It does gather momentum and it’s unabashedly sentimental (sometimes good, sometimes awful). I admit I’m still intrigued at how his other movies turned out. If coupled with a great story, his aesthetics can produce a great piece of work. Not quite an obsession but it could ignite a chain reaction for me to watch another Douglas Sirk movie … and another … and another.

My Life As A Foodie: a must listen

I have always found great joy and inspiration in meeting people whom I've admired over the years. Sometimes, they are famous, sometimes they are heroes in the community, sometimes they can just be a friend of a friend you've heard so many great things about.

I've been very fortunate over the years to not only get to meet most of my idols, but I've actually befriended a few. Nothing makes me happier than when I have the opportunity to pay it forward and introduce people to others they admire (Carrie and I chatted about this on my show last week when she talked about the time I had Elizabeth Mitchell call her at home late one night).

Equally as exciting is getting to listen to someone recount their experience, especially when you can hear the sheer joy in their voice. My friend Phil was lucky enough to meet someone he admires, Mr. Thomas Keller, recently at a dinner with the lovely Jo and Peter from www.mylastbite.com fame.

I highly recommend subscribing and listening to Phil's podcast in general, but in particular, check out this especially great episode as Phil shares his experience meeting Chef Thomas Keller!

Hi everyone! I am really excited about tonight's show and I am looking forward to all of the returning Baubles and hoping to make a few new! I just thought I would mention a few things now (so I don't get so flustered during the show):
